John
Child was in the Class of 63 at Trinity. He was one of
the original threesome that started the TrinityHigh Reunions in 2003,
exactly forty years after we had finished (or survived) the fifth form.
The two Johns and I had been through all five years before then and had
often cycled into school together.
John went on to a career in purchasing, but throughout his life was always interested in transport, initially both trains and buses, but ultimately buses became his real passion. He was a Trustee of the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society and is credited with turning it into a financially secure voluntary organisation. He was the proud owner of a beautifully restored classic Northampton bus. John wrote a lot of articles on buses and restoring them. He also produced some pages for this website, which are now out of date and have been removed. The LVVS member magazine has just published an Obituary for John, which sums you up his achievements well. which you can read below.
John died from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. That is something that if it ruptures, gives little chance of survival, and is sudden. It is most common in men over the age of 65, and they are now routinely tested for it when reaching the age of 65, using a quick and simple ultrasound scan. People of John‘s and my age just missed out on the automatic test. If you are over 65 and male and have not had such a test, then it is easy to request one. Women can also suffer, but it is far less common, but a female family died member from it in her mid-80s, and they too can request a test. [link]
