T.O.B.A.G.O.

TOBAGO is the Trinity Old Boys And Girls Organisation. The Trinity Old Boys refers to the original name of the Northampton Trinity Old Boys Rugby Club which was founded for current pupils and old boys of the school by Gunner Wright and Gary Grimshaw in 1960.

Gunner had a soft spot for rugby, hence why his office in the old New 6th Form Block overlooked the 1st team pitch. He was the rugby club's President for many years & as such attended many Annual Club dinners where he was a VERY different character to school-days! Gary also maintained an active interest in the Club throughout, as did one of his successors in the PE Department, Ray White.

The rugby club went on in the '80s to become the town's leading club as Northampton Trinity RFC (much to Old Northamptonians disgust!). It also produced a number of Saints players including Trevor Crane, Chris Morgan, Alan West (younger brother of Bryan who was not only a Saint and British Lion but also taught at Trinity), Jerry Sharpe and Kipper Benstead.

Although it was always an open club it continued to involve and be run by many past pupils from Trinity HS/GS and Unity right up until the Club’s sad demise in 1992.

However many of old members continued to meet socially and ran a number of events under the guise of TOBAGO, including this BBQ held at DAF trucks, then owned by Brownie, another Old Boy. In fact TOBAGO still exists as a Quiz team in ironically the ONs monthly quiz nights!
