The C&E recently had a photo in its looking back feature about the
lack of money to buy books in 1979. John Brewer, who was head of
English in 1979, is photographed and claimed that he had only £296 to
buy new English books for that year.
The photo was spotted in the newspaper by David Phillips and others. David sent me this photo below.
