I
started at Trinity in 1964 and at that time the forms were 1,1k,1r and
1s. Form 1 were all of the girls, 1r & 1s were all boys from within the
Northampton Borough boundary and 1k were all boys from outside the
Borough plus others from inside to balance up the form sizes. Living in
Brixworth at the time, I was in 1k and, from memory, there were others
from Guilsborough and Harpole amongst other villages.
All the 1st year forms were in the four classrooms on the 1st floor of the tower block, the 2nd year on the 2nd floor etc. unless your Form Master was one of the specialist teachers i.e. Art, Geography etc. When you would be in the Master’s specialist room. For normal lessons the teachers came to your Form room and the pupils only left for lessons requiring special rooms. A great system as it meant a minimum of movement during period changes and you could leave all your books that were not needed in your desk. I think it was the next year that the system changed so that you went to the teachers allotted room for each lesson resulting in virtually every pupil moving around during period changes and you had to carry all of your books with you, remembering to bring the correct ones from home every day, a change that I have always thought detrimental.
