I attended Northampton Technical High School for a period between
1947 and 1949 as far as I can remember (a long time ago) on a general
building course. In July 1948 I went with a party of boys on
a school holiday to a former army camp at Kessingland, near Lowestoft.
The teachers in charge were Gunner Wright, Pip Harris, Taffy Newell and
Robb.
There was a small party of girls and boys at the camp from a village
near Warwick. I exchanged addresses with one of the girls and in
1955, after National Service, we got married. In October
this year we shall have been happily married for fifty-nine years.
It was my first holiday and what an end result!
Some years ago we attended a reunion at the school and met Mr. Newell
who was most interested in our story and went off to find the records of
the holiday. Below is a copy of the Northampton Independent for
July 1948 which features on the front cover a picture of our party
aboard the Green Dolphin.
